Now, getting the best settings for your sound bar depends on the purpose of your sound bar. If you are using your sound bar to watch movies and TV shows, you will need some settings that prefer those types of content. And for music, you would want different settings.
Assuming that you will use the sound bar for a home theater effect and watch movies, I will share some settings that work best for this purpose. Here’s what you need to do.
- For watching movies, you will want more clarity and less bass. Because with too much bass, the sound may get a bit muddy, which will disrupt the sound effects and dialogues of the movie. While having more clarity will make sure the dialogues are clear, and you get to hear even the tiniest bit of details.
However, don’t bump the clarity too much because the best experience of watching a movie comes from the natural sound design. So, you should keep a balance of that to make sure you get the experience that the filmmaker intended for you.
- The next setting you want to tweak is turning off the tv speakers. Trust me; your sound bar is enough to produce quality sounds for you whenever you are watching anything.
Having the tv speakers put out sound for you will ruin your experience. It will take away the value of your sound bar in a way. So, the best thing to do is turn off the tv speakers, so your sound bar is your default speaker.
- Now, the most debatable setting to change or keep the same is the TruVolume feature on your sound bar. This is a feature that helps you in some ways but also has a bitter effect on it.
When you turn on TruVolume, you get proper volume management based on the content you are watching. For example, if you are watching an action movie, you don’t have to turn the volume down when there are loud explosions. The sound bar automatically detects it and adjusts the volume.
However, with TruVolume turned on, you won’t hear the natural sounds from the sound bar. It's usually a bit artificial since there is compression going on in the TruVolume process. So, whether you want to keep it on or depends on what you prefer, you can keep it on if you are okay with a little artificial effect in the sound.
- Don’t mess with the equalizer too much. For the equalizer presets, you can opt for direct rather than movies when you are watching movies. Having direct has a better surround sound effect than having the movies preset on.
In short, getting the best audio settings for Vizio 5.1 isn’t something you can follow along. You will have to make little adjustments here and there to get the perfect settings based on your needs.
The settings I shared with you are great for movies, but they may not be the best for music as the music sounds much better with a louder bass. So, in that case, you would want more bass than clarity in the sound.
